The day has arrived! Transfer Deadline Day, the day the summer transfer window slams shut. Its the last opportunity for clubs to bring in new footballers or to send out those they no longer want. How will Liverpool fare? It looks as this could be a busy, exciting finale to the summer window and we are going to break it down. Potential deadline day deals will be discussed along with the likelihood of occurrence. All potential deals will be rated on a 0-10 scale with 10 being a sure bet. Let's get started!
1. Thomas Lemar - Monaco - (IN) Just days ago it appeared that it was only a matter of time before Lemar would be announced by Liverpool. But Monaco have been firm in their position, refuting attempts from both Liverpool and Barcelona. And then Liverpool inked Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and it appeared he would be in place of Lemar. Not so fast! Liverpool chiefs have traveled to Monaco in an attempt to get a deal done, as reported by DailyMail. Still, I'd be pleasantly surprised if they were able to get this done. Not just surprised, shocked. If Lemar were to come to Anfield expect massive celebrations by Liverpool supporters. How likely is that to happen? I give it a 4 on the 0-10 scale.
2. Philippe Coutinho - (OUT) One way or another at least the Coutinho soap opera will end. Spanish sources continue to claim Barcelona are confident in getting this over the finished line but I have my doubts. When the owner of the club responds to a supporter on social media basically saying he won't be sold you have to believe he won't be sold. Still, the massive amount of money being discussed would be hard to turn down. And, if he stays will be mope and pout and consider to have mysterious injuries? Is he becoming toxic to the club? I don't buy it. Coutinho will need to play, and play well, if he wants to be a factor for Brazil in next year's World Cup. And, if he wants a future move to Barcelona he will need to show them his worth. I expect Coutinho to stay and he will say that all of the talk has been rumor and speculation and he never wanted to leave. I won't believe him, but he'll say it. I'm giving this a 3.
3. Divock Origi - (OUT) It looks like Origi is being squeezed out of the Liverpool squad with Firmino's form, Sturridge's health, and the addition of Solanke. And Origi needs to play. So I think he will be out, but not on a sale just a loan. In fact, this is near a slam-dunk. Origi's father claimed he was close to a move to Tottenham, but it looks like he will be headed to Wolfsburg. Either way, he will have a new kit to wear after tomorrow, it's a 10.
4. Julian Draxler - PSG (IN) Liverpool showed interest in Draxler a few weeks ago but PSG has indicated they want to hold onto him. And since then Liverpool have not been linked to the German. I can't complete dismiss it though as things got quiet with Naby Keita only to get done so its a possibility. But, it appears with Ox and another attempt at Lemar that Liverpool have moved on. I give it a 2.
5. Virgil Van Dijk - Southamption (IN) The cream of the crop. The player so desired by Liverpool supporters that Twitter blew up with reports of Van Dijk sightings in planes, trains, and automobiles. There is no doubt in Liverpool interest, the Dutch defender has been at the top of Klopp's wish list since the window opened. The question is with Southampton and if Liverpool's early folly soiled any potential deal. Since then, Southampton have been consistent in saying he won't be sold, and certainly not to Liverpool. Still, with Van Dijk refusing to train with Southampton, submitting a formal transfer request, and telling anyone and everyone he wants to play at Anfield, it's easy to see how Southampton's statements could all be a negotiating tactic. Or, they won't sell. It would be difficult for Southampton to turn down the amount of money being discussed so I'd give it a slightly better than 50-50 chance of happening, it's a 6.
6. Emre Can - (OUT) Emre Can has looked brilliant this season and seems to be flourishing in Klopp's system. And he's just 23. So why would Liverpool sell and why is he on this list? Good question. It's no doubt that Juventus has been interested in the German. Early on, reports were even saying a deal was reached. But then Liverpool stated he wasn't for sale and it appeared to die down. But that was before Naby Keita and then Ox joined the squad. And with Liverpool still attempting to ink Lemar it's easy to see the crowded midfield for the Reds. So this isn't as much why Liverpool wants to get rid of him but rather he won't want to stay. Emre Can has yet to sign an extension, so if they don't sell he would walk at the end of the season for free. And if Emre sees all of these new midfielders he may very well wish to leave instead of watching games from behind Klopp. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if Juventus makes a late bid and takes Can. It's a 6 now and would be an 8 if Lemar joins the Reds.
As you can see there are plenty of potential deals to monitor in the closing hours of the Transfer Window. Which deals do you think will go down???
