Does Klopp have a plan?

Liverpool have reportedly made a £55.5m bid for Monaco's Thomas Lemar, an attacking player who may be viewed as a potential Coutinho replacement. With only days left in the transfer window, it is time to question Liverpool's transfer targets and question what the plan is. Thus far, Liverpool have brought in three players, highlighted by the pacey Mo Salah. In addition, Solanke came over from Chelsea and Andy Robertson. For sure, Robertson was brought in to help stabilize a suspect defense. In addition, the primary target this summer has been Southampton's Virgil Van Dijk, another defender. Targeting defense makes sense for a team that has a formidable attack but many questions in front of the goal.

With that said, it seems as Klopp continues to target offensive players with Lemar being the latest example. Other targets include Julian Draxler (PSG), Renato Sanches (Bayern), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Naby Keita (RB Leipzig), and even early on Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Dortmund). What do these targets have in common? All are midfielders and attacking players.

If you ask 10 people what is Liverpool's biggest weakness, 9 out of 10 will say defense and that should be the primary target. The 10th person doesn't know football. Perhaps Klopp will get his man and Liverpool will sign Van Dijk this week. If not, it seems all of Klopp's eggs were in one basket and that basket has just fallen apart. Will Liverpool's season follow suit?
